What is Pets in the Classroom?
Pets in the Classroom is an educational grant program that provides financial support to teachers to purchase and maintain small animals for pre-kindergarten through ninth-grade classes. As a teacher, you will receive a discount voucher for a pet and vouchers for the necessary food & supplies to take care of the new addition to your classroom.
Why Have Pets in the Classroom?
Classroom animals are wonderful resources for teachers to make learning fun in all subjects. Pets help build self-esteem, teach responsibility, become friends, encourage nurturing, and improve health and education. Studies have also shown that caring for pets aids in improving school attendance.
What Pets Are Available?
Pet Supermarket grants vary by pet type and include discounts on the animal and the supplies you need.
How Do I Apply?
Adding a pet to your classroom is simple. Apply any time between August and May.
- Select Pet Supermarket as your grant type
- Create a login
- Fill out the application and tell us about yourself, your students and your classroom.
You'll receive a reply from Pets in the Classroom within 7-10 business days. Once approved, your Pet Supermarket vouchers will be mailed directly to you. Bring the vouchers to your local Pet Supermarket store and we’ll help you get started!
