Rated 5 out of 5 by from WE LOVE ALL MERRICK PRODUCTS BUT THIS IS A FAVORTE Our dogs get a mix of Merrick canned with their Merrick Dry Salmon Limited ingredient. The really love the mushy bones in Smothered Comfort. I have to make sure all 3 get a little piece of the bone since that's the first thing they eat. At first I was afraid to feed them bones. But after contacting Merrick and talking to a representative, I feed with confidence now, knowing Merrick cares about my dog's health as much as I do. And because it has a lot of gravy it's easy to hide their powder medications. They love their meals so much now, that they not only lick their own bowls but make the rounds to each other's bowls to see if there is any left over gravy. There never is.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Shocked upon opening can....... My dog is allergic to grain and so I am constantly looking for good quality, grain-free food for her. I have chosen Merrick canned food before and she loves it. Today, for the first time, I opened a can of Smothered Comfort. Sitting right on the top of the cooked meat was a chicken thigh bone. I have always been told that cooked chicken bone is extremely dangerous for a dog, so I didn't give the bone to her. I am concerned for the dogs whose owners think that if a bone is included in a can of good quality food, such as Merricks, it must be ok to feed it to their dog. I wonder how many animals will end up with medical problems because a bone has slipped into one of their cans.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth a try for your pup I bought this without realizing that it was the kind with the soft-cooked bones in it. I was concerned about this; I have fed my dog the occasional raw bone before but I know that cooked bones can be brittle. To test, I pressed the bone (a chicken thigh with a bone in it, placed right in the top of the can) in this product with a spoon. It instantly turned into a marrow-like mush, so I could see it was safe. Prince liked the first part (with the bone) and ate that and some of the food (I feed him 1/3 to 1/2 of a can per meal). I had to give this product 4 stars instead of 5 though because he wouldn't eat the rest of the can. Apparently the chicken thigh was preferable to the square chunks of meat that were in the rest of the can. It did have a nice amount of gravy, and I liked that Prince might be able to derive some benefit from the cooked bone, since dogs naturally would eat raw bones...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved My 16 year old St Bernard Mix!!! As the owner of a perfect 16-year-old St. Bernard collie mix, I’m constantly fighting Father Time. In the past, I swore by Merrick‘s Back Country Raw Infused Great Plains and still do. However, as dogs get older their nemesis is always their kidneys. After copious amounts of research and serious consultations with my vet, I made the decision to switch my boy to 80% wet food. I tried all of the five star brands and he was not impressed. To add to the problem, you basically have to be James Bond to get him to take his medicine . Then I zeroed in on smothered comfort. To cut to the chase, his urine output is clear and much more copious. I can hide his meds in the big pieces of chicken and he savers every mouthful. He weighs 80 pounds and I mix two cans of smothered comfort with one cup of the backcountry raw infused. He also has lost 8 pounds and the vet approved big time. The proof is in the pudding and my boy and the rest of my pack just completed a one hour walk- we do this twice a day. This is an exceptional product that I believe based on evidence and my own eyes is extending my precious boy’s life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dog paws the counter for this food! My dog loves Smothered Comfort and puts her paws up on the counter whenever I'm mixing it in with her Merrick kibble. She prefers white meat and loves the fresh chicken in this recipe. I haven't had a problem or worries about bones as other reviewers have stated - this reinforces that this chicken is fresh off the bone! I just scoop out the chicken, veggies and thick gravy and spoon it over her dry food. Thanks Merrick for making every meal a treat for Penny! I think she thinks this chicken was cooked just for her.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bones in the can! Really??! This is the first can I bought and the only can I will ever buy. All the time and money you spend on natural quality dog food and you couldn't strip the bones off the chicken? Thank goodness I look at everything that I put into my dogs food. I found a rather good size bone, one that he could of choked on. I have no doubt that the food is tastey for the dogs. However, there are many other brands just like yours and without bones... Highly disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My pug gets a special treat each holiday TO NEGATIVE REVIEWERS: this food is supposed to contain bones. They cook them so they’re soft and easy to eat. We have never had an incident, and we have been feeding bone-in Merrick recipes for eight years. I have been feeding this food to my pug for every Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and birthday we celebrate in this household since 2012. He always loves it, especially since he gets to chew apart the mushy bones present in each can. Even has he gets older, he looks forward to the holidays as much as we do. He now associates “Thanksgiving,” with delicious food, and whenever he hears that word will eagerly run up to where we stockpile cans of this stuff. Thank you for making a food that allows me to love on my fur baby a little more each holiday.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Smothered Comfort Your explanation as to why bondes are in your dog food is absolutely crazy!!! To make the comment is disrespectful to first our four legged family members and us...as mentioned earlier we too had to have our sire visit the vet to remove the "edible" bone. I don't care how long you have been in business, it is justs wrong...you just loss a relativley recent customer....PS: if your chef thinks there is nothing wrong with eating the chicken bones, then have him feed food to his children....
