Feeding Instructions

It is estimated 1 in every 4 dogs in North America is overweight. To determine if your dog is overweight, consult your veterinarian and check your dog periodically. You should be able to feel his backbone and ribs, see a waist between the ribs and hips and a noticeable belly tuck at the hind legs. If you cannot feel or see this, your dog is probably overweight. Consider using a weight control feeding program, such as Performatrin Ultra Healthy Weight Recipe With Salmon Small Bite Dog Food, to help your overweight dog.

Step 1: Introduce

Mix 1/4 part of Performatrin Ultra Healthy Weight Recipe With Salmon Small Bite Dog Food with 3/4 parts of your dog's current food for 2-3 days. Then increase to 1/2 and 1/2 for 2-3 days, then 3/4 and 1/4 for 2-3 days, and then feed exclusively Performatrin Ultra Healthy Weight Recipe With Salmon Small Bite Dog Food.

Step 2: Reduce Intake

Performatrin Ultra Healthy Weight Recipe With Salmon Small Bite Dog Food is specially formulated to satisfy your dog's appetite faster, so that your dog is wanting (and eating) less food. Start by determining how much your dog is currently eating by either weighing or counting the number of cups of food fed daily. The accompanying Feeding Guide indicates the typical amount of this food required to maintain the indicated weight. Your dog will adjust better to eating less food if the amount of food is reduced gradually rather than one drastic reduction of food intake. Start by reducing the amount fed by 10% and weigh your dog again in 2 weeks. The goal is to have your dog lose between 2-3% of body weight in a 2-week period. For example, a 22 lb (10 kg) dog should lose about 0.5 lb (0.25 kg) over 2 weeks. If your dog's weight loss over this period is less than 2% of body weight, reduce the amount fed by another 10%. Continue this pattern until your dog is losing between 2-3% of body weight in a 2-week period. Keep in mind that most dogs will need 20 - 40% less food to achieve this rate of weight loss, at which point you can simply maintain that level of food consumption until your dog has successfully achieved their target weight. It may take 6 -10 months to reach your dog's ideal body weight.

Step 3: Measure Success

Maintain a weight loss chart to monitor progress. Weigh your dog on a scale every 2 weeks or use a measuring tape to record its girth behind the front legs and in front of the hind legs. Slow, sustainable weight loss is best for achieving permanent results.

Step 4: Maintain Success

Once your dog's target weight has been achieved, increase the amount of Performatrin Ultra Healthy Weight Recipe With Salmon Small Bite Dog Food fed by 10% every 2 weeks until desired weight is maintained. For long-term weight maintenance, adjust feeding according to your dog's individual needs.

Supplementary Treats: If you are giving treats, use in moderation and select low-fat, healthy choices.

Exercise: To help increase your dog's metabolism, increase the amount of walking or play time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dogs love this food! My dogs love this food better than any other I've ever tried over the past few years. I give it 5 stars however, I did run into a customer service situation when the wrong food was shipped to me. That process was difficult but ultimately they sent us the right food but we had to take pictures and go back and forth through email. I felt I should have been comped for my order but for now I'm still a customer. Great product but rough customer service if you run into problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Checks all boxes! My fussy sheltie loves this food and stays loyal after many others he has rejected. Proper nutritional balance, ( check ingredients)..loves the taste, great for him as he has entered senior years as protein not quite as high as most yet keeps him in shape while allowing wiggle room for some healthy " treats"!
