Feeding Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place. Feeding for Reproduction: Pro Plan provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's ideal body condition. Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily. Puppies start to nibble solid foods at 3-4 weeks of age. Keep moistened Pro Plan available at all times. Allow your puppy to eat at will until fully weaned (6-8 weeks). After weaning, Pro Plan can be fed moistened or dry. For best results, develop a regular feeding schedule such as three small meals a day for younger puppies.

You can gradually reduce to one feeding in the morning and one in the evening as your puppy ages. The routine should not vary. As puppies near adulthood, their calorie needs may drop, and your puppy may begin leaving some food in the bowl. Don't misinterpret this as an indication of dislike for the food. Instead, begin offering less so your puppy doesn't overeat and stays in ideal body condition. Nestle Purina Research indicates that avoiding overfeeding of puppies may help their development. Maintaining ideal body condition is key to encouraging proper growth in all puppies, especially large breeds. The indicated amounts are only a guideline. If your puppy becomes overWeight, a reduction of your puppy's daily food intake may be appropriate. You may wish to consult your veterinarian about a Weight control progarm. Recommended for Growth: This product is for growth of large breed puppies and maintenance of adult dogs - not for repoducing or lactating females. If you have a pregnant or nursing female, we recommend Pro Plan Focus Chicken & Rice Formula or Pro Plan Focus Lamb & Rice Formula puppy foods.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Formula change caused issues At the suggestion of our breeder & vet, we had been feeding our puppy ProPlan since we brought her home. Several weeks ago we purchased a new bag and she refused to eat it. After a day or so, realizing this was it, she ate it and then vomited. We figured, oh, she's a puppy, maybe got into something she shouldn't. This went on for a few days, and her stools were runny & mucousy. Our formerly "eats like she's starving" pup stopped eating. Yesterday she ignored her food all together, despite the addition of homemade stew. If only the label had indicated a formula change with the new look, I may have purchased a smaller bag to see how she handled it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Puppy Food EVER!!! Late December 2013 we added a new Black Lab to our family after putting down our Yellow Lab of 13 years in July 2013.  We tried many different puppy foods with our first Lab and always struggled with her liking the food.  The breeder STRONGLY recommended Pro Plan Focus for Puppies.  We have kept her on this since we got her and she LOVES it!  Compliments come left and right about her shiny and soft coat.  I wish I would have discovered this years ago, but I am so happy and proud to use this product.  Our Vet stands by this product as well and encouraged us to keep her on it as well.   THANKS PURINA!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Nutrition! The worlds TOP show dogs are fed this food and they do phenomenal on this - that is fact. I don't understand how anyone who hasn't at least tried the product can give it any rating, many people are so ignorant about animal health and nutrition and believe anything on the internet. By-products are nutritious and important for the proper cell function of canines; dogs love eating heart, liver, spleen, etc (which are all by-products). This is where the nutrition is, not in a low calorie chicken breast. I love Proplan products and will continue to feed them to my dogs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Food I have a 10 week old lab puppy and i got her at 7 weeks and she was eating Science Diet Puppy food and they gave me a bag of that food. I was wanting to switch her to Pro Plan but I figured i would use the bag they gave before i switched. About two days later i noticed she would eat her food but she would more or less play with her food so i went and bought a bag of pro plan puppy food and she will not pick her head up from the bowl now until it is all gone. A buddy of mine who had her sister was doing the same thing so i gave him a bucket of Pro plan and his lab will not pick up her head either until the food is gone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Food I have raised 3 dogs now from 6-8 weeks old, and now have my 4th dog Dozer, a lab, that we just got 2 months ago. He is almost 4 months old now. This is the first time I have tried Pro Plan for my dogs. Out of all the puppy food we have tried over the past 9 years, having to work through some different foods to get the puppies to want to eat good, this one by far has exceeded any expectation I had. Dozer LOVES this food. Never once have I had to try to coax him to eat it. On top of that, the last vet checkup was great. The vet said he was developing extremely well, his coat looked great, and his energy level was tremendous... even for a puppy. I have since switched my other dogs to other Pro Plan products as well now since we have had such great results with the puppy food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth switching for more solid bowels We have a three month old husky that was started on a different brand of dog food by the breeder. After a month of scooping her pooh and most of it was just a mess to clean up I was fed up with scooping. Needed a dog food that would solidify her bowels up. This is the one! Scooping is no longer a messy dreaded chore. Easily scooped up without needing a shovel every time. So if you're in the same boat I was and on the fence about changing, do it, it was so worth it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heard good things but not totally sold yet We’ve gone through the sample pack and a full large bag of the food so far. Our puppy does love it, and our other dogs want to eat it so badly. Our vet has actually recommended this food, as did the breeder we got our pup from. There really aren’t too many large breed puppy foods out there, and we have a Newfoundland poodle mix so we need that for sure. She is having some ear infection issues and a lot of eye debris. When a previous dog of mine had that, switching her food helped. We may have to end up doing this for her but are going to try to avoid switching if possible. The food is pretty affordable and is rated well, so we will see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally solved my DCM fears! Finding a food for my Golden Retriever puppy was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I read so much research about different foods. All of my research led me to choosing a grain inclusive food, once I learned about the prevalence of dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs, especially Goldens. My pup was so sensitive to most foods when he was younger, but we finally landed on this one and I couldn’t be happier. His sensitive belly can handle it and I know Purina is one of just a few brands that has nutritionists on staff, so I don’t have to worry about him lacking nutrients or developing DCM. We’ll stick with Pro Plan forever. Thank you!
