Habitat and Care
Winter white dwarf hamsters can be kept in a minimum cage size of 24x24x12 for one. Multiple animals will require more space. To ensure no injury or escapes happen, select a cage made specifically for dwarf hamsters with bars that are not too far apart. Glass or plastic dwarf hamster habitats can be used when adequately ventilated, and bedding should changed more often. Winter white hamsters are a great beginner animal for someone looking for a companion that does not need handling. Their small size and general clean nature, makes them one of the easier animals to care for. Clean food and water need to be offered daily, and dwarf hamster specific chews should be rotated to help keep their teeth from overgrowing. Hamsters benefit from a variety of toys such as exercise wheels, tubes and tunnels for enrichment. Daily spot cleaning of the habitat is recommended and a weekly deep cleaning is required to keep your animal healthy long term. Dwarf Chinese hamsters can be handled outside their habitat with caution to not expose them to any dangers in the home environment. Although not generally aggressive, use caution handling them outside of their cage to prevent injuring your pet hamster.
