Habitat and Care

Habitat and Care

Bearded dragons come from dry regions of Australia and need a warm, dry habitat with a proper basking area.

  • Experience Level: Beginner
  • Minimum Enclosure: 4 x 2 x 2 feet (about 120 gallons) recommended for adults
  • Temperature: Cool side around 75°F
  • Basking Spot: Around 105°F, with the basking area close enough to the heat lamp that your dragon stays warm enough to digest its food
  • Lighting (UVB): Required; position UVB lighting close enough for your dragon to benefit, since inadequate UVB can lead to poor growth and metabolic bone disease
  • Enrichment: Provide basking platforms and a hide on the cool side
  • Maintenance: Remove leftover crickets at night and spot-clean waste daily
