Product Description

Axolotls are a specialized type of salamander that reaches maturity without going through natural metamorphosis. These unique animals are fully aquatic and will never need to come out of the water. As their gills are unprotected, these animals should be kept alone or in a species only tanks with other similar size same gender axolotls. Endemic to Lake Xochimilcan in Mexico, these animals have adapted to consistent cooler temperatures. • Life expectancy is up to 15 years. • Max size of 7 to 10 inches.

Feeding Instructions

For optimal health and growth, feed a variety of live worms, frozen foods especially for juveniles. For sub adults add mature animals, offer commercial axolotl formulated pellets as well.

• To prevent impaction, bare bottom tanks are best for juveniles under 4 inches, no course sand can be used for animals above 4 inches. • Axolotls need to be maintained in cooler temperatures which do not exceed 70 degrees. For optimal health, axolotls prefer minimal current, a low flow high efficiency filtration is recommended • As an animal without scales, poor water chemistry can lead to many health challenges.
